Girl with Fruit, 2015. Paper mache clay over recycled materials, oil paint, beeswax, hemp.
Girl with Fruit marks the 4th in my “Ancestry” series. She has an older sensibility and appears to predate my other ancestors. There is a whiff of the child mummy about her. Her hemp hair has faded, and her skin, off-set by a patina reminiscent of Sahara-red sands, is bone-white. The colors of her irises, and the fruit she holds, have been bleached by time. She studies the partially eaten fruit with a child’s concentration and is frozen in the act of taking a second bite. She is currently for sale on Etsy.
After completing ten girl heads I’m ready to do something new (see above). These guys have a half-torso and teeth, and the finish will be rougher-looking, with maybe coarse cloth hair, braids, sticks, etc.
When completed, they will be for sale on my new Etsy site.
